MILES CITY — Alexius Foster scored 29 points Friday night as Dawson Community College opened the Region XIII women's basketball tournament with a 75-69 triumph over Lake Region of North Dakota.

Foster, who connected on 9 of 9 free throws, also had four rebounds and four steals for the Bucs. 

Dawson, which will play host Miles Community College (30-0) at 2 p.m. Saturday, also received 15 points and eight steals from Ejanae Coopwood and 12 points from Kitawna Little Light.

Lake Region jumped ahead 22-7 in the first quarter. Dawson was within 40-34 by halftime before grabbing the lead with a 24-11 run during the third period.

Maara Nelson led Lake Region with 19 points. Jaydn Pollert followed with 14 and Jordyn Worley 10.

In the second game of the night, Bismarck State beat Williston State 99-79.

Bismarck State's Trae Murray scored a game-high 27 points. Gabriella Capasso finished with 21 for Williston.

Bismarck will play North Dakota State College of Science at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
