BILLINGS — Montana State Billings fell to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's top softball team, Central Washington University, 8-5 and 9-6 Saturday afternoon at Avitus Group Stadium.
It was the home-opening doubleheader for the Yellowjackets (10-26, 3-15). MSUB had played its first 34 games on the road.
The Yellowjackets and Wildcats (24-12, 15-3) will play two more games on Sunday beginning at 12:05 p.m.
Payton Reynolds had two home runs to lead MSUB in the first game. Teammates Allie Hughes homered once in both games and finished with four runs batted in.
The Yellowjackets, who have lost five straight, had 23 hits over the two games.
With the pair of wins, CWU now leads Western Washington by three games in the race for first place. MSUB fell one game behind Simon Fraser at the bottom of the conference standings.
CWU's Savannah Egbert went 5 for 5 with one run batted in to help the Wildcats win game one. In game two, Julia Reuble slugged her way to a double, two home runs, and three runs batted in to doom the Yellowjackets.
