MILES CITY – Big bats highlighted the first day of the Class A State American Legion Baseball Tournament.
Glacier, the Bitterroot Red Sox, Gallatin Valleyand Belgrade were all first-round winners. The Red Sox are the reigning three-time champions.
Kyle Grevious doubled, homered and finished with five RBIs in Gallatin Valley’s 15-6 win over the Laurel Dodgers.
The Dodgers will play Tri-County is a 10 a.m. loser-out game on Thursday.
Leadoff hitter Derik DeFrance had a double and triple among his five hits for Gallatin Valley, while Ryan Murphy, Hunter Johnson and Michael Nehring had two hits apiece.
The Outlaws scored in every inning with the exception of the sixth. Gallatin Valley scored four runs in the fifth and added five in the seventh. Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit.
Johnson pitched five innings to earn the win.
Cash Golden had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Dodgers. Keagan Campbell, Carson West and Braden McIlvain also had RBIs.
Glacier 8, Tri-County 3
Coby Clark had two hits and four RBIs for Glacier, while teammates Danial Seymour and Terek Bistodeau had two hits apiece.
Ryan Venneman pitched 5.2 innings for the winners, striking out six.
Bitterroot 10, Lewistown 0
The three-time defending champions needed just six innings for the first round win.
Garrick Richardson went the distance, pitching a four-hitter and striking out six.
Matthew Brown and Hunter Omlid each had two RBIs for the Red Sox, while Bridon Bowman had a pair of hits.
Belgrade 8, Miles City 6
The Bandits scored six runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Colton Charnholm, Coby Richards and Jacob Klonsinski each had two RBIs for Belgrade.
