BILLINGS — Christian Michaelson, Kolby Kimmet and Johnny Day each had two hits as the Billings Scarlets defeated the Missoula Mavericks 8-4 in seven innings on Sunday in Class AA American Legion baseball at Pirtz Field.
With the victory, the Scarlets avenged an 8-0 setback to the Mavs on Saturday and posted a 2-1 record over two days of play against the Mavericks and Rapid City Post 22 of South Dakota.
Michaelson, the leadoff batter, finished 2-3 with two runs and an RBI for Billings (5-2). One of Michaelson's hits was a double.
Koby Croft and Nathan Dewar both scored two runs for Billings.
Michael Horrell earned the win, tossing four innings and allowing two hits, one run and three walks while striking out two. The run was not earned.
Dane Fraser was 2-4 with an RBI for Missoula. Andrew Claussen drove in two for the Mavs and Drew Stensrud scored and belted a double.
On Saturday, Michael Zaske and Aaron Seward combined to toss a one-hitter as the Scarlets shut out Rapid City Post 22 2-0 at Dehler Park.
Zaske, who recorded the win, allowed no hits during his six innings of work. He struck out 12 and walked two. Seward, who was credited with the save, allowed one hit during his one inning of relief work.
Croft and Dewar were responsible for two hits apiece for the Scarlets.
Matt Hegre had Rapid City's lone hit, a double.
The Scarlets scored their two runs in the first inning.
Earlier in the day, the Scarlets lost 8-0 to the Mavericks.
Missoula's Dylan Chambers limited Billings to two hits in the seven-inning game. He struck out seven and walked two.
The Mavericks came up with eight runs against three Scarlets pitchers.
Croft had both of the Scarlets' hits.
Connor Daniels doubled for the Mavericks.
Post 22 7, Billings Royals 3
Rapid City Post 22 notched seven extra-base hits in a 7-3 seven-inning win over the Royals on Sunday at Dehler.
Dann Blanchard led the Royals with a 3-4 performance, including one run and one RBI. Hayden Yarbrough was 1-2 for Billings with an RBI. Brenden Concepcion batted 2-3 with a run for the Royals.
Post 22 padded a 4-3 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Sheridan 6, Laurel 5
Laurel 6, Sheridan 5
The Laurel Dodgers and Sheridan Troopers traded wins on Sunday in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Sheridan scored three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third en route to a 6-5 seven-inning victory in the first contest. In the second game, Laurel rallied from a three-run hole after an inning of play for a 6-5 seven-inning victory.
Ayden Roush, Michael Greer and Eric Taylor all doubled for Sheridan in the first game. Roush led the way with two RBIs. Starting pitcher Jacob Boint pitched five innings for the Troopers, giving up nine hits, five runs (three earned), zero walks and fanning nine.
Cash Golden was 2-3 for the Dodgers with two RBIs and a run. Golden also pitched the full six innings and allowed eight hits, six earned runs, four walks and struck out two.
In the second game, Golden and Connor Polkowske doubled for the Dodgers and Golden plated three runners. Polkowske crossed the plate three times.
Laurel grabbed a 6-5 lead with four runs in the fifth.
Boint had two RBIs for the Troopers.
