BILLINGS — Dan Barz and his wife, the late Diane Barz, will be honored with the Dave McNally Friend of American Legion Baseball Award this year.
The award will be presented at the annual Billings American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame Banquet April 28 at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center.
The couple's son, Rocky, played for the Billings Scarlets under coach Dennis Maggert. Over the years, the couple helped with fundraising events and traveled with the Scarlets. Dan was president of the Scarlets Booster Club and was on the BALB board of directors.
After an eight-year battle with cancer, Diane passed away in May, 2014. Dan is retired and lives in Polson.
Six former players will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the banquet. The former Billings Royals to be inducted are Brandon Worth, Greg Steffanich and Chris Shultis. For the Scarlets, Adam Hust, Chris Collins and Warren Pospisil will receive the honor.
