GREAT FALLS — Jonathan Willems drove in all three runs to help the Billings Mustangs defeat the Great Falls Voyagers 3-1 and earn a three-game sweep Wednesday night.
Billings starter Justin McGregor allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings and struck out four as the Mustangs won their fourth in a row. McGregor (2-4) allowed eight hits before Alec Byrd, Manuel Cachutt and Jake Stevenson combined to give up two hits over the final 3 2/3 innings.
Stevenson struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth save. He threw 12 pitches, 11 for strikes.
Great Falls starter Avery Weems shut out the Mustangs for five innings, but Willems got Billings on the board in the sixth with a two-run single off Ramon Pineda (2-1).
Willems brought another run home in the eighth with a single for a 3-1 lead.
Eric Yang went 2 for 3 and scored twice for the Mustangs (5-1 in the second half, 20-24 overall). Billings finished with 11 hits, with every player in lineup getting at least one.
Great Falls took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Lency Delgado, who finished with two hits. Harvin Medoza also had two hits for the Voyagers (3-3, 18-25), who saw eight of their nine players get hits.
The Mustangs continue their road trip with a three-game series in Idaho Falls starting Thursday before beginning a four-day break for the Pioneer League/Northwest League All-Star game. Thursday’s game with the Chukars, who won the North Division’s first-half title, is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start.
