BILLINGS — The Pioneer League map is changing once again.
The Orem Owlz announced Wednesday plans to relocate the franchise to Pueblo, Colorado. The planned move is at least two years away and subject to approval by both Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball.
“It has always been my dream to have a youth facility that could host tournaments and help develop young players from all over the country, including disadvantaged and special needs athletes," Owlz majority owner Jeff Katofsky said in a team press release. "Pueblo, Colorado has embraced the concept and provided us with the opportunity to not only accomplish this legacy, but also to have a new stadium built for the Owlz.”
With the Owlz move, three league teams will eventually reside in Colorado. The Owlz will join the Grand Junction Rockies and the transplanted Helena Brewers, who announced last year that they were moving to Colorado Springs in time for the start of the 2019 season.
The Owlz spent the previous 15 seasons in the Provo/Orem market in Utah County.
