BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Montana State's club hockey team began its season this past weekend with a two-game sweep of Western Washington.
The Bobcats opened with a 4-3 win on Friday and followed with a 7-3 route on Saturday.
Ryan Winchester, Kody Thomas, Ryan Padden and Ross Hanson all scored on Friday. Thomas, a Great Falls Americans Junior A product, added an assist in his first college game.
“Scoring any time during the season always brings a round of joy, but that feeling is definitely a little stronger when it's the first game of the season,” Thomas said. “I got a great opportunity from the work our forwards put in down in the corners and was able to take advantage of the situation presented to me.”
On Saturday, Padden had two goals, both assisted by Ryan Perius. Luke Bing also scored twice, and Hanson and Josiah Pilskalns rounded out the scoring.
Montana State will take on the Bozeman Stingers on Friday and then play Montana Tech on Saturday. The puck drops for both games at 7 p.m.
