MISSOULA — Missoula County Sheriff/Coroner T.J. McDermott has formally ruled the death of University of Montana Grizzly football player Andrew Harris a suicide.
Missoula Police had said they were investigating the death as a suicide when Harris was found in his Missoula home Jan. 22.
Harris, 22, of Kalispell, had recently finished his redshirt junior season and had played in 11 career games for the Griz. He had moved to the defensive line this past season, playing in eight games and finishing the year with one tackle and 1/2 a sack.
His death drew social media reaction from across the state, the Big Sky Conference and the nation in the following hours and days.
Harris was a first-team all-state player and captain for the 2014 state champion Glacier Wolfpack football team. He played for former Montana quarterback Grady Bennett at Glacier.
His father, Greg Harris, played for the Griz from 1971-1975. His brother Josh was a defensive end for Montana from 2008-2012.
