MISSOULA — Five Montana softball players earned six end-of-season awards from the Big Sky Conference on Tuesday.
Senior Maddy Stensby was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Sky first team as a pitcher/utility player. She's 6-7 in the circle and has a 3.94 ERA. She hit .314 at the plate, .500 as a pinch hitter and .333 with runners in scoring position.
Sophomore Cami Sellers, a transfer from Boston College, was voted the league’s Newcomer of the Year and was named to the all-conference second team. She leads the Big Sky in hits (66), doubles (21), extra-base hits (30) and total bases (113). Additionally, she ranks in the top four in average (.375), runs scored (34), RBIs (38) and home runs (eight).
Senior Colleen Driscoll, sophomore Jessica McAlister and freshman Kylie Becker received honorable mention accolades.
Driscoll, who was an honorable mention for the second straight year, leads Montana in wins (nine) and ERA (3.75).
McAlister, who hit .256 as a freshman, has increased her batting average to .319 as a sophomore. She is also the team’s primary catcher. Montana’s staff ERA of 4.20 ranks second in the Big Sky.
Montana has become a different team with Becker batting leadoff, which she’s been doing the last eight games, all wins with the Grizzlies batting .410.
