MISSOULA — Three more Montana Grizzlies have left the football team, upping the total during or after the 2018 season to seven players.
Redshirt sophomore cornerback Lewis Cowans, true freshman quarterback Seamus Hennessy and true freshman tight end Jake Olsen, of Great Falls, have been removed the Grizzlies’ online roster for 2019 because “they are no longer with the team,” Montana Assistant Director of Communications Eric Taber told the Missoulian.
Cowans, from Mission Viejo, California, saw action in five of the first six games of the 2018 season but didn’t play in any of the final five. He had three total tackles and one pass breakup. In nine games as a redshirt freshman, he tallied 14 total tackles, two pass breakups and half a sack.
Cowans’ previous bio on GoGriz.com included this note: “Shows potential to be a major contributor to the Grizzly defense in his upcoming redshirt-junior season,” which would have been 2019.
Neither Hennessy nor Olsen played a single snap during the 2018 season. Hennessy is from Corvallis, Oregon, and Olsen played at Great Falls CMR.
Four other players previously left the Griz. Junior wide receiver Lamarriel Taylor departed in October for personal reasons. In December, senior running back Jeremy Calhoun announced his intent to transfer, and redshirt sophomore running back Rey Green transferred to a junior college. In January, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Payton Stoner left the team for the second time in two seasons.
