OGDEN, Utah — After a pair of dominant performances last week, Montana redshirt senior Jamar Akoh is bringing home some hardware.
On Tuesday Akoh was named the Big Sky Conference men's basketball player of the week after combining for 47 points and 27 rebounds in Montana's victories over Idaho State and Weber State. Last Thursday, Akoh scored 22 points and grabbed 17 boards in the 80-69 win.
On Saturday against Weber State, the Rancho Cucamonga, California, native scored 25 points, a season-high, and added 10 more rebounds in a 75-68 victory. He shot 54.3 percent (19 for 35) between the two games while adding six total steals and three assists. Against Weber State, Akoh scored 12 straight points and 13 of 15 in a row for the Grizzlies in helping build a 66-51 lead late in the second half.
Akoh has been dominant since returning from a wrist injury that forced him to miss seven games. Now consistently back in the lineup, he's averaging 16.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game for the Grizzlies (14-6, 7-2). This is Akoh's second career weekly honor and first this season. It is also the second time a Grizzly has earned the conference award this season as Montana junior Sayeed Pridgett won two weeks ago.
Montana's next contest will be at Montana State on Saturday.
