Following a 3-0 week on the road, Montana’s junior designated hitter Morgan Johnson and sophomore pitcher Tristin Achenbach have been named the final 2019 Big Sky Conference Softball Players of the Week.
Johnson put together a monstrous week at the plate to lead Montana to a series sweep at Southern Utah and extend its win streak to eight games. With the three wins, the Griz clinched the No. 3 seed in this week's Big Sky Championship.
The Missoula native batted .727 with eight hits, including three home runs on the weekend. Johnson recorded a home run in each game of the series for a 1.545 slugging percentage while adding six runs and six RBI.
Achenbach totaled a 2-0 record in the circle to lead the Griz on the weekend. The Great Falls product posted a 3.94 ERA with six strikeouts in 10.2 innings of work.
She pitched a complete game in the series finale with a five-strikeout performance while allowing seven hits and six runs. After allowing four runs in the first inning, Achenbach settled in and gave up just two runs the rest of the way in a 10-6 victory for Montana.
