GLENDIVE — The Dawson Community College softball team opened Mon-Dak Conference play with four wins over North Dakota State College of Science this past weekend. DCC's winning streak now sits at 21 games.
The Buccaneers beat the Wildcats 2-1 and 8-0 on Saturday. In the first game, Ashlyn Tingey broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alexa Kappel pitched a shutout in the second game, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts. April Davis hit a home run for DCC.
On Sunday, DCC rolled 17-4 and completed the sweep with another 2-1 win. Maycen O'Neal went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and four RBIs in the first game, which lasted five innings. Shelby Martin also went 2-for-3 with a home run and tacked on a double, while Jordan O'Neal went 3-for-4 and Hadley Bennett went 3-for-5. The Buccaneers trailed 1-0 through three innings in the final game, but they tied it in the fourth on a Alison Ellertson homer and took the lead in the fifth.
DCC (26-2) will host Dickinson State in a doubleheader Tuesday.
