GLENDIVE — The Dawson Community College softball team hosts Kirkwood of Iowa for the District H Championship.

The best-of-three series begins on Wednesday with games at 2 and 4 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be played on Thursday at noon.

The series winner advances to to NJCAA D2 National Tournament, May 22-25 in Clinton, Mississippi.

The Lady Bucs, ranked No. 18 nationally, are an NJCAA-best 42-3. Kirkwood, ranked No. 7, is 48-14.

DCC is hitting a collective .396 with 49 home runs in 45 games. The Lady Bucs rank in the top 10 nationally for runs, RBIs, sacrifice flies, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

DCC pitchers rank among the top 10 for ERA, shutouts and batting average against. Freshman Shelby Martin of Helena is 16-1 this season with an ERA of 2.23. She has struck out 131 in 110 innings. She is also batting .465 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs.
