The Carroll College softball team began its season with two wins on Day 1 of the NAIA SoCal Classic on Friday in Lake Elsinore, California.

The Saints defeated Saint Kathrine 14-0 on a no-hitter tossed by Tess Eaton, and followed up that performance with an 8-3 victory over No. 14 Vanguard.

Brooke Yarnell led the offense in the first game, going 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Anna ApRoberts went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Ali Williams stroked a home run during 1-for-2 effort.

The Saints piled up 15 hits. Eaton (1-0) tossed five innings, threw four strikeouts and walked three.

The Saints surged to an early lead over No. 14 Vanguard and never looked back. Amber Brewer (3-for-4) and Tianna Sell each posted two RBIs in the win. Brewer, Sell, Megan McCormick and Kendall Mooney all blasted home runs against Vanguard, too.

Williams (1-0) went six innings. She gave up six hits and struck out four batters.
