HELENA -- The Carroll College softball team traveled down to Southern California this weekend and defeated No. 14 Vanguard University 8-3 at the NAIA College Classic in Lake Elsinore, California.

In what was supposed to be seven games, weather allowed the Saints to play three games.

They also shut out St. Katherine 14-0 and lost to Aquinas College 16-5.

Brooke Yarnell finished the first game against St. Katherine a perfect 4-for-4 while Amber Brewer finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the win over Vanguard.

Rocky men skiers sweep MSU

The Rocky Mountain men’s ski team won all four races against Montana State during the USCSA Grand Teton this past weekend at Red Lodge.

Sean McCormick took first with a combined time of 70:35 in the first race, while Andraz Reich-Pogladic finished fifth with a time of 72:78.

The Battlin’ Bears continue their season at the Northern USSA Qualifier at Montana Snowbowl.

Abe, Hovde win Frontier hoops awards

Lewis-Clark State senior Dana Abe and Montana State-Northern sophomore Sydney Hovde were selected as this week’s Frontier Conference men’s and women’s basketball players of the week.

Abe, a 6-4 guard from Seattle, averaged 23.5 points and seven rebounds in the Warriors’ two wins over Rocky Mountain and Carroll College.

Hovde, a 5-10 forward from Columbia Falls, averaged 10 points and seven rebounds in the Skylights’ two wins against Montana Tech and the University of Providence.
