DES MOINES, Iowa — Montana State-Northern senior wrestler Brandon Weber concluded a decorated career for the Lights with a runner-up finish at 157 pounds at the 62nd annual NAIA Wrestling National Championships on Saturday.
No. 1 Nosomy Pozo of Life defeated the No. 2 seed Weber 6-5 in the championship match.
Weber, a three-time State B-C champion and four-time finalist at Forsyth, was runner-up at the NAIA national tourney for the second straight year. In 2017, Weber was the 157-pound national champion and was singled out as the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tourney.
As a freshman, Weber narrowly missed All-American honors.
Also finishing second for the Lights was Isaac Bartel at 197. Top-seeded Evan Hansen of Grand View downed No. 2 Bartel 6-4.
Gresh Jones, a four-time State A champion at Sidney, was third for Dickinson State at 133 pounds.
Just like at 157 pounds, at 165 two wrestlers from Montana colleges placed as Andrew Bartel of MSUN was third and Adrian Lyons-Lopez of UP finished fifth.
Providence's Casey Dobson, of Great Falls, was seventh at 157.
Grand View (Iowa) won the title for the eighth year in a row with 219 points, while Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) was second at 85. Grand View has been No. 1 in 50 consecutive NAIA coaches polls. Northern finished 10th with 50.5 points and Providence was 12th with 39.
