ASHLAND, Ore. — In a tight team race, the University of Providence finished third and Montana State-Northern fourth at the inaugural Cascade Collegiate Conference wrestling championships on Saturday.
At the eight-team tourney, Menlo (Calif.) and Southern Oregon tied for first with 120 points. Providence was third with 119 and Northern fourth with 117.
The Argos had champions in Randy Keesler (184 pounds) and Matt Hopkins (285). The Lights had four wrestlers earn runner-up finishes in Matt Weber (141), Andrew Bartel (165), Chris Nile (174) and Isaac Bartel (197). All are NAIA Championship automatic qualifiers.
Other UP wrestlers who were automatic national qualifiers are: Casey Dobson, 157, 4th; Adrian Lyons-Lopez, 174, 3rd; John Hensley, 197, 4th; and Justin Harbison, 285, 3rd.
Other MSU-N wrestlers who were automatic national qualifiers are: Nick Kunz, 125, 3rd; Landon Bailey, 133, 4th; Brandon Weber, 157, 3rd; and Steeler French, 184, 4th.
Nile, a sophomore from Forsyth, was the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week for his performances from Feb. 5-11.
The NAIA national tourney is March 2-3 in Des Moines, Iowa.
