PHOENIX — Rocky Mountain College swept the team titles at the Frontier Conference golf championships Wednesday, while Montana Tech's Sean Benson and Lewis-Clark State's Marissa Louder earned medalist honors at Papago Golf Course.
Louder and Benson, as well as the Bears' men's and women's teams, qualified for the national tournament, which will be held May 15-17 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Rocky's men entered the final round with just a two-stroke lead over Montana Tech. But the Bears shot a 294 on Wednesday while Tech came in at 300, and Rocky finished with an 8-stroke win.
Rocky's women won easily, finishing 28 strokes ahead of second-place Lewis-Clark State.
Louder and Eryn Ellis of Rocky Mountain College finished tied after 72 holes at 232. But Louder won a playoff on the 18th hole to win the title. Hayden Flohr (245) of Rocky Mountain finished third. Morgan O'Neil (fourth), Anna DeMars (fifth) and Amanda Conner (seventh) finished the run of five Rocky golfers in the top seven.
Benson entered the final round as the lone player under par and that's how the Billings Senior graduate finished.
He shot 71 on the final day, putting him at 4-under 212 for the tournament. Rocky's Reece Nilsen fired a 69 to finish in second place, six shots off the pace, while Providence's Jonny Cielak was third (222).
