BILLINGS — The 2009 national championship men’s basketball team highlights this year’s Clara Klindt Athletic Hall of Fame class for Rocky Mountain College.
The inductees include three Rocky graduates and a former men’s basketball coach.
The individual honorees are Paul 'Duke’ Edwards (golf), Jeannie McGonagle (women’s soccer), Jake Stuart (men’s basketball) and Mark Adams (men’s basketball coach).
The Hall of Fame Banquet is Friday, Sept. 20 at The Pub Station in Billings.
The 2009 men’s basketball team defeated Columbia College 77-61 for the only national title in the program’s history.
Edwards, a 1966 graduate, was a member of the Battlin’ Bears golf team. He led Columbus to five consecutive Class B state championships (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997) during his coaching career. He will be inducted into the Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame this summer.
McGonagle played for the Rocky women’s soccer team (2002-05) and was the program’s first All-American. She is a 2006 graduate. McGonagle finished her career with 77 points, scoring 28 goals with 21 assists.
Stuart, a 2006 graduate, was a two-time all-Frontier Conference selection and NAIA All-American in 2004. He helped lead the Battlin’ Bears to two straight NAIA National Tournaments. The guard finished with almost 1,400 career points.
Adams was the head men’s basketball coach from 1982-85. In 1985, he guided the Battlin’ Bears to a 23-9 record and berth in the NAIA National Tournament, the program’s first since 1951. Prior to Adams’ arrival, Rocky had 17 consecutive losing seasons. He also coached at the NCAA Division I level and has been a broadcaster on ESPN.
