PORTLAND, Ore. — Montana State Billings is one win away from a title at the GNAC baseball championships after dismantling Western Oregon 10-0 on Thursday at Concordia University-Portland.
MSUB senior Steen Fredrickson was dominant in seven innings pitched. The all-GNAC first-team selection allowed one hit, two walks and one hit-batsman while striking out nine.
After 3 1/2 scoreless innings, the Yellowjackets plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth, which featured a three-run triple from junior left fielder Tyler Detloff (2-for-4). Junior designated hitter Chris Arpan also went 2-for-4 and cleared the bases with a double in the sixth.
MSUB senior second baseman Conner Linebarger went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a two-run triple, and junior first baseman and GNAC player of the year Daniel Cipriano finished 2-for-3 with a double.
The Yellowjackets (32-18) will play at noon Friday against St. Martin's, which they beat 4-2 on Wednesday. St. Martin's will need to beat MSUB twice on Friday to capture the championship.
