LAS VEGAS — The Montana State University Billings softball team won the first game and lost the second of its season-opening doubleheader at the 10th annual Desert Stinger Classic on Friday.

MSUB began the day with an 11-6 win over University of Mary, thanks in part to two home runs from Allie Hughes (3-for-4). Payton Reynolds also had three hits, including a solo homer and a double. Alyssa Etheridge allowed four earned runs on five hits and seven walks with three strikeouts in five innings for the Yellowjackets.

In the second game, MSUB's offense recorded three hits (all singles) in a 10-1 loss to San Francisco State. Rylan Austin, Kelsee Bushell and Cailee Morgan recorded the Yellowjackets' hits. MSUB's Haley Couch allowed three earned runs in three innings, and Maddy Lincoln gave up seven earned runs in two frames.

The Yellowjackets will continue Desert Stinger Classic play Saturday against Minot State at 11:30 a.m. and against California State University, Dominguez Hills at 2 p.m.
