BILLINGS — Playoff implications loom large this week for the Montana State Billings men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Both Yellowjacket programs are tied for sixth place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings as they host doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday.
The top six qualify for the GNAC Tournament.
The MSUB men (11-11, 6-8) host Simon Fraser (12-10, 6-8) on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium, followed by the Yellowjacket women (10-10, 6-8) playing No. 7 Northwest Nazarene (21-1, 13-1).
Thursday and Saturday are the last home games for the MSUB men.
Thursday is the 13th Annual Pink Night. All fans who wear pink on Thursday will receive free admission to both games and all proceeds from the evening will be donated to the St. Vincent Healthcare EVA Project. There will also be a 50-50 raffle and pink T-shirts will be on sale for $20.
On Saturday, the MSUB women will play Central Washington at 5:15 p.m., followed by the men taking on Western Washington.
The MSUB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be coordinating a Make-A-Wish fundraiser on Saturday. Six Make-A-Wish children will be honored at halftime of the men’s game and be presented gifts from Yellowjacket athletes. Make-A-Wish stars will be sold for $1 in the lobby. All proceeds from the star sales will be donated back to the Billings Make-A-Wish organization.
Sodexo will also feature a catered dinner on Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m. Meal options include a ham dinner with a beverage and dessert for $12 or a personal pan pizza and 24-ounce fountain drink for $8.
The MSUB Hall of Fame and Distinction induction ceremony will be Friday at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The 2019 inductees – Matt Schoonover (baseball), Shantell Wirtzbeger (women’s basketball) and Navin Marimuthu (tennis) will be honored during the men’s game.
