BOZEMAN — Corbin Lonebear of Dodson and Jessie Maruska of Power are the 406mtsports.com Athletes of the Month for December after establishing scoring milestones.

Lonebear, a junior, poured in 45 points to set the Dodson school record Dec. 20 in a 78-57 win over Nashua. He broke the 38-year-old record of 44 by Skip Cole, who happens to be the team’s bus driver.

“I honestly didn’t know there was a record like that,” Lonebear, who would score 27 against Turner a night later, told the Great Falls Tribune. “And I didn’t know it was Skip who held the record.”

Maruska, a senior point guard, surpassed the 1,000-point barrier on Dec. 13 by scoring 35 points in Power’s 82-27 rout of Sunburst. The outburst gave her 1,016 for her career.

“She is very versatile in her skill set," Power athletic director Eric Stang said. "She can shoot from 3-point range, drive/handle the ball, is a willing passer and is a solid team defensive player and 1 on 1 defender. High basketball IQ as well, high academic student in the classroom.”
