HELENA —The Helena Capital High girls basketball team dictated the tempo of its 55-33 AA Western Conference home victory over Missoula Sentinel on Thursday night.

Sydney Sheridan led the team with 14 points, and Emily Kidder also scored in double digits.

The Bruins (12-1, 6-1), who began the game on a 21-3 run, did what they needed to do to win, to coach Katie Garcin-Forba said.

"I think any time you play a team that Karen (Deden) coaches, they are going to make adjustments and get some great looks (at the basket)," Garcin-Forba said. "All of our shots didn't fall, but we got shots that we wanted. We did a good job of coming back and getting shots we wanted in the third quarter."

The Spartans (6-7, 2-5) were led by Lexi Deden, who finished with a game-high 16 points.

"They are an excellent team and work the ball around well inside and out in the game," Karen Deden said. "They hit a bunch of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and that hurt us. I thought in the second half we did a good job against them and for a long time, we held them to seven points. Overall, I was happy with our situation. We have some players down right now with the flu and injuries, but I thought the kids stepped up, and I liked what I saw."
