CHICAGO — Ben Perrin of Kalispell Flathead is the Gatorade Montana boys cross country runner of the year.

Perrin was the State AA champion with a time of 15:43.60, finishing 12.19 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Perrin was 42nd at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional Championships, the only time in nine races during the year he did not win.

"As a runner, Ben is super strong," Bozeman coach Casey Jermyn said in a press release from Gatorade. "He sets a good early pace with many of his races and doesn't look back. He ran pretty tough all year."

Perrin's older brothers Zach (2011-12, 2012-13) and Jake (2015-16) are both former state Gatorade runners of the year.

By winning the state award, Perrin is a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, with the winner to be announced later this month.
