BILLINGS – Jesse Owens of Billings West and Blake Counts of Kalispell Flathead are Class AA offensive MVPs, and West’s Lucas Gibb is the defensive MVP in voting by the classification’s football coaches.
Owens and Gibb were part of a nine-player contingent from the state champion Golden Bears named to the all-state first team. West defeated Flathead 20-14 in last month’s title game.
Conner Paul (defensive lineman and guard), Hugh Edward (inside linebacker), JJ Lindsey (inside linebacker), Kade Wilcox (outside linebacker), Gibb (safety), Owens (cornerback and wide receiver), Trevin Gradney (cornerback), Kobe Nelson (offensive tackle), and Josh Erbacher (quarterback) all earned first-team selection.
In sharing the offensive MVP honor, Owens had 71 receptions for 1,126 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averaged 15.9 yards per catch and 86.6 yards per game. Counts rushed for 2,588 yards and 23 touchdowns, averaging 7.3 yards per carry and 199.1 yards per game. Counts also caught eight passes for five touchdowns, and averaged 28.6 yards per receptions.
Defensive MVP Gibb had seven interceptions, 11 passes defended and one fumble recovery.
