Kalispell Glacier soccer standout Cadie Williams and state champion golfers Joey Moore of Billings West and Ryggs Johnston of Libby are the first 406mtsports.com Athletes of the Month for the 2016-2017 school year.
Williams, a senior, has been a scoring machine. She is the girls winner after tallying four consecutive hat tricks -- three-goal games -- in September. Williams, an all-state selection as a junior who has committed to play soccer for Montana State Billings, is a three-sport star who also plays basketball and is a sprinter on the track team.
Moore and Johnston share the boys honor after record-setting performances at state golf tournaments.
Johnston, a junior who will eventually head to Arizona State to play golf, completed an unprecedented calendar sweep by cruising to the Class A title in Sidney four months after winning the Class B crown. Johnston, winner of two consecutive Class B title, broke the Class A record by three strokes with his 134.
Not to be outdone, Moore won his second consecutive Class AA crown and lowered his own state record with a 133 total over two days. The senior, who is bound for San Diego State, won by 13 strokes.
Nearly 100 nominations for 406mtsports.com Athletes of the Month were submitted for September.
