GREAT FALLS — Jace Rhodes of Billings West, Shane Gibson of Livingston and Michael Weber of Forsyth are the Blewett Wrestling Scholarship winners.
The awards were announced on Saturday. The scholarship is $1,000 and one is awarded to a student-wrestler in Montana for classes AA, A and B-C.
Rhodes was a three-time state champion and four-time state placer for the Golden Bears. He earned a 4.48 weighted GPA and will be a preferred walk-on on the Wyoming wrestling team and study computer engineering.
Gibson was a three-time state placer, including winning the title as a senior, placing sixth as a junior and second as a sophomore. He carries a 3.5 GPA and plans on attending either Dickinson State or the University of Providence. Gibson plans wrestling collegiately and pursue legal studies.
Weber, a four-time state champion for the Dogies, joins his brothers Matt, Luke and Nathan as Blewett Scholarship winners. Weber has orally committed to the North Dakota State wrestling program of which his brother Luke is a member. Weber has a 3.3 GPA and plans on majoring in exercise science, with the goal of going to medical school.
It is the 13th year in a row Alexander Blewett, III, a trial lawyer from the personal injury law firm of Hoyt & Blewett PLLC in Great Falls, has offered the scholarships.
"We love wrestling for the life lessons it teaches and these kids embody what this great sport is all about," Blewett said in the release.
