BILLINGS — It was an exciting week for Livingston's Shane Gibson.
On Wednesday, Gibson signed to wrestle with the Minnesota State University-Mankato wrestling team.
Gibson placed first at 205 pounds at this year's State A wrestling tourney. Overall, Gibson sported a 42-1 record this year and 138-23 career mark. As a junior, Gibson was sixth at the state tourney at 182. Gibson finished second at state as a sophomore at 182.
At last weekend's AAU/USAW annual convention at the Billings Red Lion Hotel, Gibson was a finalist for the USAW Gordon Smith Award. In being recognized as a finalist for the award, presented annually to an outstanding citizen in wrestling, Gibson received a large black plaque that may be making its way to Mankato with him.
"It's kind of heavy, you can't put it on a wall," he said. "I'll set it on a desk in my room. I won't forget about it, maybe I'll bring it to college to remember where I came from."
