CODY, Wyo. — Russian Misha Akatnov scored five goals in leading the Missoula Jr. Bruins to a 9-4 win over the Yellowstone Quake on Friday night at Riley Arena.
Missoula boosted its record to 19-17 in the NA3 Hockey League's Frontier Division. The last-place Quake fell to 3-29-2.
The Jr. Bruins and Quake traded goals in the first period. Akatnov scored on the power play with assists from Connor Frye and Vadim Zubkov with just 50 ticks left in the period. Dylan Rumpke answered for the hosts just before the buzzer.
The teams traded goals again in the first 13-plus minutes of the second period. Wyatt Plott scored for Missoula and Luke Hartge for Yellowstone. The Jr. Bruins then seized control with goals by Trevor Prince and Akatnov before the end of the period.
Missoula turned the game into a rout in the third period. Akatnov scored twice and Austin Leadbetter once in the first four minutes, stretching the visitor's lead to 7-2. The Quake responded with two goals, then the Jr. Bruins finished strong with goals by Akatnov and Ty Dettman.
Josh Sample earned the win in net for Missoula. He made 20 saves. The Jr. Bruins owned a 35-24 edge in shots.
The teams will play again Saturday night in Cody, Wyoming.
