MISSOULA — The Missoula Jr. Bruins posted their fourth straight win Saturday, cruising to a 7-3 triumph over the Yellowstone Quake at Glacier Ice Rink.
Missoula boosted its record to 22-17 in the NA3 Hockey League's Frontier Division and is sitting in good position to reach the playoffs with a solid finish. The last-place Quake fell to 3-32-2.
The Jr. Bruins and Quake battled to a 2-2 tie in the first period. Missoula's John Bannon struck first, with assists from Austin Leadbetter and Ty Dittman just 41 ticks into the game. Yellowstone scored roughly 3 minutes later, then Misha Akatnov found the net for the hosts on assists from Christian Ward and Trevor Prince.
Yellowstone went up 3-2 with a goal at 11:28 in the second period. Missoula answered less than two minutes later, with Ty Dittman scoring a short-handed tally on helpers from Leadbetter and Bannon.
Missoula seized control with four unanswered goals in the third period. Leadbetter and Dittman scored in the first 67 seconds of the period. Fullerton and Prince added insurance goals.
Seth Daniels and Evan Williams shared goalie duties for the hosts. Daniels was 13 for 16 in save attempts and Williams was 10 for 10.
Missoula will hit the road this week. The Jr. Bruins will play at Gillette, Wyoming, on Friday and Saturday.
