GREAT FALLS — The Missoula Jr. Bruins dropped an 8-2 decision to the Great Falls Americans Saturday night at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
Missoula fell to 18-17 while the Americans boosted their first-place record to 30-7 in the NA3 Hockey League's Frontier Division. The Jr. Bruins have lost two of their last three games and sit in fourth place.
Great Falls jumped on Missoula goalie Evan Williams for three goals in the first period. Justin Ohnstad started the surge on an assist from Jack Olson at 5:08. Ben Rinckey made it 2-0 on assists from Ohnstad and Brandon Peterson at 13:47 and Payton McSharry added a third goal at 15:06.
Olson's second goal at 7:07 in the second period gave the hosts a 4-0 lead. Fifteen seconds later, Missoula scored its first goal, with John Bannon doing the honors on assists from Misha Akatnov and Christian Ward.
Great Falls answered with two more goals before the second period was over.
Missoula scored its second and final goal on a power play at 1:09 in the third period. Ward lit the lamp on assists from Bannon and Keith Zobel. Great Falls added two insurance goals to give it a winning margin of six.
The Jr. Bruins will be back in action Friday when they play the Yellowstone Quake in Cody, Wyoming.
