KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Saddle bronc rider Jesse Kruse and barrel racer Lisa Lockhart started the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo with second-place finishes in the first round of competition.
The rodeo, which features the year-end and Finals champions from 12 circuits, continues through Sunday.
Kruse, the 2009 world champion from Great Falls, earned $4,738 for an 85.5-point saddle bronc ride. Chase Brooks of Belgrade was fifth with 82.5 points for $1,327.
Lockhart, competing out of the Badlands Circuit, went 15.29 seconds in barrel racing for $4,738. She was one-tenth of a second out of first place.
Haven Meged of Miles City was third in tie-down roping with a time of 7.8 seconds. He earned $3,412.
Round winners were: Clayton Biglow, bareback; Gary Gilbert, steer wrestling; Clay Smith-Jake Long, team roping; Leon Fountain, saddle bronc; Ty Harris, tie-down roping; Jessie Telford, barrel racing; Cole Melancon, bull riding.
