GLENDALE, Ariz. — Joao Ricardo Vieira won the PBR Unleash The Beast Ak-Chin Invitational on Sunday here.
It was the Professional Bull Riders third top-tier event of the season.
Vieira scored an 82-point ride in round two and turned in an 87.5-point performance in the championship round. He went 3-for-3 over the two-day stop and won $34,185.
Montana bull rider Jess Lockwood, who won the first two premier series stops this season, placed 20th. He had a 84.25-point ride in round one and placed fifth in the 15/15 Bucking Battle with an 87-point ride for 45 world points and $2,000.
The Volborg cowboy is still No. 1 in the world standings. He started the year with successful rides on his first 10 top-tier attempts, but the 10-for-10 streak was stopped when he was bucked off Deep Water in round two on Sunday night.
Justin Felisko of the PBR tweeted that Kalispell bull rider Matt Triplett was out of action on Sunday with a wrist injury and would have an X-ray or MRI on Monday.
