Jess Lockwood holds the championship trophy

Jess Lockwood of Volborg, the 2017 Professional Bull Riders world champion, announced on his Instragram account he will be out of competition for six weeks after surgery to repair a broken collarbone.

PUEBLO, Colo. — According to a Professional Bull Riders release, Jess Lockwood announced on his Instagram account on Tuesday that he will be out of competition for six weeks following surgery to repair his broken left collarbone.

The 2017 world champion from Volborg suffered the injury when he attempted to ride the bull Wild Goose in the first round of the Global Cup competition last weekend in Arlington, Texas.

The 21-year-old Lockwood has been the PBR's top rider in 2019, leading the world standings by 967.5 points over Joao Ricardo Viera of Brazil. Lockwood has two event wins and has won five rounds.

He started 2019 by winning the PBR events at New York City and Chicago.

The PBR's Billings Invitational is scheduled for April 12-14 at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark.
