BILLINGS — Former two-time Montana State Amateur golf champion Brandon McIver of Billings has advanced to the second stage of the three-stage Korn Ferry Tour qualifying school.

McIver, 25, moved on after placing in a three-way tie for 11th place at a first-stage tournament in late September in Garland, Texas. He shot 13-under par for a 72-hole total of 275.

The top 21 golfers advanced to the second stage out of the competition at Garland.

First-stage tournaments will wrap up on Oct. 11

The second stage of qualifying will begin on Oct. 29 at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, where McIver will likely play.

There will also be second-stage events Nov. 5-8 at Brooksville and Plantation, Florida, Dothan, Alabama, and Murrieta, California.

The final stage will take place Dec. 12-15 at the Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge (Panther Lake and Crooked Cat) in the Orlando, Florida, area.

Up for grabs at the finals will be spots on the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour, formerly known as the Tour. Korn Ferry is a national developmental tour, with players looking to continue on to the next level and compete on the PGA Tour.

Last year, while taking part in the q-school, McIver lost out in the second stage in McKinney, Texas, by placing in a tie for 43rd.

He won the Montana State Amateur in 2013 and 2014. McIver graduated from Billings West and the University of Oregon, where he was a member of the Ducks' national title team in 2016.

He also competed as a professional on the MacKenzie Tour in Canada in 2017.
