BILLINGS — The Billings Mustangs took game one 4-3 and the Rocky Mountain Vibes won the second game 6-3 in Sunday's doubleheader at Dehler Park.
The Pioneer League teams played a doubleheader because Saturday's game was postponed due to thunderstorms.
In the first game, Billings scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Rocky Mountain scored two in the top of the third to tie it up, and the Mustangs went ahead for good with two in the bottom half.
Billings' top two hitters, center fielder Quin Cotton and left fielder TJ Hopkins, each reached base three times and scored two runs. Cotton went 0 for 1 with three walks, and Hopkins went 3 for 4.
On the mound for the Mustangs, right-hander Justin McGregor allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
In game two, the Vibes scored three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead, and they were up 4-1 through four. Billings cut the deficit to one with two runs in the fifth, but Rocky Mountain scored one in both the sixth and the seventh.
Catcher Jose Sibrian and first baseman Ernesto Martinez each went 2 for 3 with solo home runs for the Vibes (6-7 second half, 23-28 overall), while second baseman Nick Egnatuk and shortstop Luis Avila each went 2 for 3 with a double.
For the Mustangs (8-5, 23-28), Cotton was 0 for 0 with two walks and a sacrifice fly, shortstop Quincy McAfee was 2 for 3 with a double and left fielder Cash Case was 1 for 1 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and two runs scored.
