Montana junior quarterback Dalton Sneed went 10-of-11 for 43 yards in the first quarter, but the scoreboard didn't have much to show for it.
Montana's only points of the quarter came after Drake's second drive. On the first play of that drive, Drake senior running back Drew Lauer ran for 3 yards before Grizzly junior linebacker Dante Olson forced a fumble. Sophomore cornerback Dareon Nash recovered it to set up junior kicker Tim Semenza's 42-yard field goal. SCORE: Montana 3, Drake 0.

Montana replied with a score of its own. Sneed found Jerry Louie-McGee and Samori Toure for first down receptions, and ran for a first down of his own. Redshirt freshman running back Adam Eastwood muscled into the end zone for his first touchdown of his Montana career. Semenza drilled the PAT. SCORE: Montana 10, Drake 3.
Senior safety Reid Miller picked off Drake senior quarterback Grant Kraemer on a first down, but the pick was negated due to UM redshirt freshman safety Robby Hauck being flagged for pass interference.

Midway through the third quarter, Montana cornerback Dareon Nash picked off Kraemer to give the Grizzlies good field position. On a fourth-and-1 try, Eastwood ran up the middle for a 37-yard rushing touchdown. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 17, Drake 3.
On fourth-and-7, Drake pulled off a fake punt attempt from midfield and Will Warner ran the ball 49 yards to score. PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 17, Drake 10.
Montana followed that with its longest drive of the day: a 9-play, 64-yard scoring drive capped by a Sneed to junior wide receiver Jerry Louie-McGee pass for an 18-yard touchdown. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 24, Drake 10.
Two plays later, Montana found the end zone again.
On Drake's first play of the ensuing drive, Kraemer threw right to Miller, setting up Montana's next touchdown: a 10-yard pass from Sneed to sophomore wide receiver Samuel Akem. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 31, Drake 10.

Drake continued its drive from the end of the third quarter into the fourth with momentum. Kraemer connected with senior tight end Cole Neary on three consecutive passes to march down to the Montana 18-yard line. On first-and-10, Montana senior defensive tackle David Shaw sacked Kraemer for a loss of 4 yards and the ball came out on the play. Senior linebacker Josh Buss recovered the fumble.
With 11:07 remaining in the game, Drake went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line. Kraemer found wide receiver Will Purdom who was wide open. PAT failed. SCORE: Montana 31, Drake 16.
Montana followed that touchdown by piecing together a very messy scoring drive in the middle of the fourth quarter.
Flags were all over the place, but Sneed found the end zone on a 13-yard run after being on the receiving end of two penalties: a late hit (which was originally called a targeting penalty) and a roughing the passer. Montana was also called on a holding penalty in the drive. SCORE: Montana 38, Drake 16.
Montana tacked on more points with less than four minutes to go. Semenza nailed a 36-yard field goal. SCORE: Montana 41, Drake 16.
Drake replaced its quarterback with backup Alex Bray. On his second attempt of the night, Montana's Nash picked him off and ran 40 yards down the home sideline to the house. Semenza's PAT was good. The Montana sideline was issued a warning after the play. SCORE: Montana 48, Drake 16.
