Quarter by quarter updates...

Montana opens the game with the ball. First play from scrimmage for the Grizzlies is a run by redshirt freshman running back Adam Eastwood. It only takes six plays for Montana to march into the end zone, courtesy a 17-yard quarterback keeper up the middle by junior Dalton Sneed. Junior kicker Tim Semenza's PAT is no good. SCORE: 6-0 Montana.

UNI's first drive is stalled. Senior linebacker Josh Buss gets the start on defense after being rumored to not play at all for the game.

Montana marches down the field, but turns the ball over on downs after a quarterback sneak on fourth-and-1 by Sneed is unsuccessful.

The Panthers go three-and-out on their second drive, as quarterback Eli Dunne throws three incomplete passes. Junior cornerback Justin Calhoun defends the pass on third-and-10.

Montana drives down the field to the 8-yard line, but two incomplete passes force the Grizzlies to attempt a 25-yard field goal. Semenza's attempt was good. SCORE: Montana 9, UNI 0.

Northern Iowa and Montana trade three-and-out drives. The Panthers go three-and-out again.

Montana gets in good field position to start its fifth drive and the Grizzlies make quick work of it. The three-play drive was capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Sneed to sophomore wide receiver Samori Toure who made the catch over the UNI defensive back in the corner of the endzone. SCORE: Montana 16, UNI 0.

UNI's Dunne completed his first pass of the game after going 0-of-8 to start the game. Northern Iowa still punted away the ball. Then, Montana and UNI exchanged three-and-out drives.

Montana received good field position for its second drive of the quarter. From 25 yards out, Sneed lateraled to senior wide receiver Keenan Curran, who then passed to junior tight end Colin Bingham for the touchdown. SCORE: Montana 23, UNI 0.

Montana put together a drive late in the fourth quarter, stumbling into the redzone. As time expired in the first half, Semenza drilled a 31-yard field goal.

HALFTIME SCORE: Montana 26, UNI 0.

UNI was piecing together a solid drive. And then junior linebacker Dante Olson spoiled it. Olson returned the pick for 26 yards to put Montana just outside the redzone to start its first drive of the half. The Grizzlies didn't capitalize on the turnover.

Nine minutes of game time later, Northern Iowa put together a 13-play, 90-yard scoring drive to end Montana's shutout bid. SCORE: Montana 26, Northern Iowa 7.

With Colton Howell in at quarterback, Northern Iowa pieced together a 10-play, 77-yard scoring drive to start the quarter. UNI running back Marcus Weymiller ran into the endzone for a 1-yard score. The Panthers converted a two-point conversion — a Weymiller run — after Montana cornerback Lewis Cowans was flagged for pass interference on the first attempt. SCORE: Montana 26, Northern Iowa 15.

With 3:14 left on the clock, Northern Iowa put the cap on a scoring drive to pull them within a score of tying the game. Howell aired one out for 20 yards to Nick Fossey for the touchdown. Howell's toss to tight end Briley Moore narrowed Montana's lead to 26-23.

But Montana avoids the late comeback, with Sneed completing three passes to get a new set of downs. Montana kneels it out to run out the clock.

FINAL: Montana 26, Northern Iowa 23.
