Live updates as the Grizzlies visit Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, Sept. 29, 2018.

FIRST QUARTER

Montana won the toss and elected to receive. 

The Grizzlies pieced together a 48-yard drive capped off by a 34-yard field goal by Montana junior placekicker Tim Semenza. SCORE: Montana 3, Cal Poly 0.

Montana's defense came up big in Cal Poly's first offensive drive. On fourth-and-1 near midfield, Montana linebacker Dante Olson brought down Joe Protheroe just shy of the line to gain. 

Montana's next drive stalled out and Eric Williams booted a 41-yard punt to the 7-yard line. Cal Poly's J'uan Campbell bobbled the return and fumbled it. Grizzly long snapper Matthew O'Donoghue recovered the fumble, setting up Montana's 7-yard scoring drive. True freshman receiver Gabe Sulser dashed into the end zone for a 6-yard receiving score. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 10, Cal Poly 0.

Cal Poly drove all the way down to the 16-yard line and was looking to score, but Griz linebacker Josh Buss wanted nothing to do with that. He recovered a Cal Poly fumble and returned it for 80 yards to score. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 17, Cal Poly 0.

STAT OF QUARTER: Montana's Dante Olson had seven tackles through the first frame.

SECOND QUARTER

Cal Poly finally got on the board on its first drive of the second quarter. The Mustangs marched 71 yards downfield. Protheroe capped off the drive with a 7-yard touchdown. Alex Vega's kick was good. SCORE: Montana 17, Cal Poly 7.

Montana quickly followed up with another scoring drive of its own. On a four-play drive, Sneed found sophomore Samuel Akem for a 54-yard score — the longest pass play of the season. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 24, Cal Poly 7.

Before the half ended, Montana put together another successful drive. The score on this one was an 8-yard pass from Sneed to redshirt freshman tight end Matthew Rensvold. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 31, Cal Poly 7.

STAT OF QUARTER: Akem's 54-yard reception was the longest catch of the season for Montana.

THIRD QUARTER

The Mustangs put the pedal to the metal to open the second half. Joe Protheroe scored a 2-yard touchdown after Cal Poly pieced together a 5-play, 77-yard drive. PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 31, Cal Poly 14.

The Grizzlies answered with a drive of their own. Redshirt freshman Adam Eastwood rumbled into the end zone on a 14-yard run. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 38, Cal Poly 14.

The Mustangs marched down the field again on a 12-play, 84-yard drive capped by a 2-yard run by Protheroe. PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 38, Cal Poly 21.

On Montana's next drive, the Grizzlies drove down to the red zone again. Semenza's 27-yard field goal was good. That kick marked his 10th field goal on the year. SCORE: Montana 41, Cal Poly 21.

FOURTH QUARTER

Montana opened the fourth quarter with a long score by Eastwood. He darted up the middle for a 68-yard score for his second score of the day. Semenza's PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 48, Cal Poly 21.

Cal Poly's Joe Protheroe muscled his way into the end zone and scored for Cal Poly. PAT was good. SCORE: Montana 48, Cal Poly 28.
