MISSOULA — Montana football is back in the rankings.
The Grizzlies were ranked No. 24 in the STATS FCS Preseason Top 25 poll that was released Monday morning.
The last time Montana was ranked was during Week 8 last season. The Grizzlies fell out of the top 25 after losing to Weber State.
Two other Big Sky Conference teams were ranked in the preseason poll — Weber State came in at No. 8 and Eastern Washington was right behind at No. 9. Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, Idaho, Sacramento State, UC Davis and Montana State all received votes. Former Big Sky member North Dakota also received votes.
Montana's foe for the season opener — Northern Iowa — was ranked No. 13 in the poll.
Montana was ranked in all seven preseason polls put out by The Sports Network when Bobby Hauck last coached at Montana from 2003-09. His teams were also ranked in the top 25 all 92 weeks of his tenure. The lowest any of those teams were ranked was 14 — 2003's postseason poll.
