Brooke Heggie, a Minnesota native, will join the Orediggers women's basketball team next season.

Montana Tech just got a little more depth along its frontcourt.

On Thursday, head Oredigger women's basketball coach Carly Sanon announced that she has signed transfer Brooke Heggie, a 6-foot-2 post. Heggie, a Minnesota native, spent the past two seasons at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

“I knew I wanted to take the invitation for an official visit after a very informative conference call with Coach Sanon and my parents,” Heggie said in a release.

Averaging 17 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks last season, she was named both all-region and All-American. A force in the paint on both ends of the court, she was also named to the all-defensive team.

Heggie scored over 1,000 points during her high school career and was named all-conference three times.

“Brooke is a great addition to our team. Her size, strength, and leadership is everything we are looking for in our program,” Sanon said in a release. “She is a force in the paint. Brook is an outstanding rebounder and shot blocker.”

If there was a place the Orediggers needed a bit of help, it was at the forward spots and Heggie should certainly help fill that role. Montana Tech was forced to go fairly small most of the 2018-19 season, especially after standout center Shay Potter left the team during the middle of the season.

Having Heggie come in and play well right away certainly could be a boon for the program.

“Coach Sanon was very clear from our first conversation about the expectations she has for her program," Heggie said in a release. "Academics were the center of conversations and the knowledge that Montana Tech’s job placements rates after graduation are at 95 percent showed me I would end up with a quality education while playing the sport I love.

"I feel honored to be chosen to play my next two years at Montana Tech.”
