GREAT FALLS — The University of Providence men's basketball team defeated Rocky Mountain College 83-71 on Friday to open Frontier Conference play.
The No. 8-ranked Argos, who led 46-36 at halftime, improved to 7-0 on the season. The Battlin' Bears fell to 3-2.
Providence shot 48.3% from the field and 40.6% (13 of 32) from 3-point range, while Rocky finished at 30.1% on field goals and 29.5% (13 of 44) on 3s.
Redshirt freshman and Belgrade graduate Dawson Fowler led the Argos with 15 points (5 of 8 on FGs, 3 of 4 on 3s), and he tallied seven rebounds. Junior Joel Thabize added 14 points (6 of 9 on FGs), redshirt senior and Great Falls grad scored 11 (3 of 6 on 3s) and junior and Montana Western transfer Zaccheus Darko-Kelly finished with seven points and game-highs in rebounds (11) and assists (seven).
Rocky senior Clayton Ladine led all players with 20 points (6 of 15 on FGs, 5 of 11 on 3s), and he added eight rebounds and five assists. Junior and Box Elder grad Brandon The Boy scored 14 points (5 of 11 on FGs, 4 of 9 on 3s), and freshman Kalvin Bowen finished with 12 points (4 of 9 on FGs, 2 of 4 on 3s).
