BILLINGS — Montana State Billings slugged a program single-game record six home runs en route to a 17-5 victory over Saint Martin's in the first game of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday at Dehler Park.
In the second game, Matt Dillon hit the 13th and final home run of the weekend for MSUB — but it wasn't enough as Saint Martin's prevailed 6-2. Overall, MSUB won three of four games against Saint Martin's over the weekend as the Jackets posted 19-5 and 5-3 victories on Saturday.
The Jackets were propelled by a power surge against St. Martin's as MSUB batters belted six homers in the twin bill sweep on Saturday.
The 13 home runs tied the GNAC record for round-trippers in a four-game series. MSUB also flexed its muscles for 13 homers in a four-game set last year and Western Oregon accomplished the feat during the 2010 season.
In game 1 on Sunday, Daniel Cipriano hit his 9th and 10th homers for the Jackets and Chris Arpan also blasted two over the fence. Wyatt Setian and Andrew Schleusner each hit one home run. Dillon hit his 10th home run in the second game.
Colton Peha hit his third home run in the second game for Saint Martin's. It was the only homer of the day for the visitors.
MSUB is now 17-15 overall and 17-7 in the league. Saint Martin's fell to 12-21 and 8-16. MSUB remained in first place in the league with the split.
