BURNABY, British Columbia — The Montana State Billings men's basketball team lost its Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener 88-76 to Simon Fraser on Friday.

The Yellowjackets fell to 4-3, while their Canadian foe improved to 7-1 and 2-0 in GNAC play.

SFU led 41-37 at halftime and pulled away in the second half. The Clan shot 53.1% from the field on the night and 55% (11 of 20) from 3-point range. The Yellowjackets finished 50.8% from the field and 44.4% (12 of 27) from distance, and they missed their only two free-throw attempts.

MSUB's Brendan Howard led all players with 27 points (12 of 17 from the field, 3 of 4 from 3), and he grabbed 10 rebounds. Tyler Green added 22 points (8-of-16 on field goals, 6 of 13 on 3s), and Billings Central graduate Chrishon Dixon finished with six points (3 of 8) and a game-high seven assists.
