Billings professional boxer Daniel Gonzalez is slated to compete at "Fight Night at the Fort Belknap Casino" Aug. 11 in Harlem.
Gonzalez (12-38-2) will be matched against Helena's Duran "Junior" Caferro (14-1) in a six-round, 152-pound feature match. Caferro beat Gonzalez by unanimous decision Jan. 2, 2015.
"It is an addiction. I love it," Gonzalez, 37, said. "It's great. It's just me. I go in there and I can't blame anybody. When I win, it's on me and when I lose, it's on me. The fact is my record is pretty ugly, but I've boxed a lot of tough guys and did well. I get to box, have fun, get a paycheck and go back to work."
Other Montana boxers on the card are Jon Jay Mount (2-1) of Billings, Tyson Flatness (0-0) of Lame Deer and Megan Martin (0-0) of Dodson. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the bouts begin at 5 p.m.
Mount, 38, is originally from the Fort Belknap Reservation and now lives in Billings and trains with the Billings Elite Amateur Boxing club. Mount is serving as the promoter for this fight. He owns Silver Wolf Fight Promotions and this is his first show.
Flatness is making his pro debut, but has a 7-1 amateur mixed martial arts record. He'll be matched with Mount (2-1).
"It's been hectic doing the matchmaking and advertising and trying to train because I am fighting on it. It is pretty hectic," Mount said. "I am doing the business part of putting on a show and still training to fight. I'm pulling my hair out sometimes."
Wamnee Ereaux (0-0) is originally from the Fort Belknap Reservation but lives in Tucson, Ariz., now. She will tangle with Martin in a four-round bout.
Pat Ferguson of Spokane, Wash., will be fighting in the main event. Ferguson (3-0) is a former national amateur titlist. In the 199-pound, six-round match, Ferguson will take on Rubin Williams (29-28-1) of Detroit.
Ronald Johnson (11-1), of Las Vegas, will also compete.
Weigh-ins are Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Red Whip Fitness Center in Fort Belknap Agency.
