BOZEMAN — Whitefish's Xander Burger and Billings Skyview's Jordan Roe are the Athletes of the Month for October after leading their teams to state soccer championships.

Burger, a team captain, scored a state-record five goals in leading the Bulldogs to a 6-2 win over Polson for the Class A boys title. His scoring output alone matched the highest by any team in a state final, matching the five goals scored by Billings Central in 2009.

The five goals gave Burger 17 for his senior season, to go along with three assists. He was an all-state selection as a junior and this year led Whitefish to a boys record sixth state crown.

Roe, a junior, was the Eastern AA Most Valuable Player and scored two goals as Skyview defeated Missoula Big Sky 6-0 to complete a perfect season (15-0-0) and win its first girls soccer championship.

Roe was all-state for the second consecutive season.
