HAVRE — The Missoula Bruins won five straight games over the weekend to claim the state boys hockey championship.

The Bruins went 3-0 in pool play, then downed Helena 4-1 in the semifinals and Billings 5-2 in the state title game Sunday afternoon.

Easton Leadbetter, Sam Skillestad, Henry McDougall, Henry Ledyard and Preston Jones scored Missoula's goals in the title game. Sam Miland stopped 40 of the 42 shots he faced.

The Bruins began the tournament with a 3-0 win over Flathead behind two goals from Jones and another by Ian Checota, Miland stopped 23 shots for the shutout.

Missoula followed that up with a 4-1 win over Butte. Jones again tallied two goals, while Eddy Lochridge and Bransen Nelson had the others. Miland stopped 23 shots.

McDougall registered a hat trick in the Bruins' 6-4 win over host Havre. Leadbetter added two scores and Jones had the other. Miland stopped 14 shots.

Zach Hangas had a pair of goals in the 4-1 semifinal win over Helena. Nelson and Logan Stabnau also scored. Miland made 35 saves.
